Anti Ageing
It is quite normal to expect people to want to look attractive and this might explain why anti-ageing skin care products are so successful. Reducing the visible signs of ageing is the goal for many people as they grow older, and why shouldn't it be? The skin care industry uses beauty products that increase the synthesis of the protein collagen, the main protein in skin which becomes less elastic as we age. With around a quarter of our skin protein being collagen, the importance of this substance has not gone unnoticed. This category of skin products is in fact related to another group of everyday products that help reduce the signs of aging known as antioxidants, they are the body's method of slowing down the ageing process.
You probably know many anti-oxidants by name, including vitamin C, the use of which is still, even now, hotly debated in the science and nutrition community. Vitamin C formulated skin care treatments suffer with a particular problem of oxidizing on contact with the air which causes a problem for users and manufacturers.
Manufacturers are trying alternative skin care treatments to vitamin C that do not have this oxidization problem or cost as much to produce. Although these products are good, they cannot actually compare with vitamin C but fortunately vitamin E and alpha-lipoic acid are also anti-oxidants so can be used to gain the same effect.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant and component of human blood whose purpose is to help increase the body's immune system. It helps build resistance against infection like cancer for example. Lipoic acid is found in every single human cell and helps provide energy - an additional function is to repair skin damage caused by the normal aging process.
Phytochemicals form the other category of anti-ageing skin care products which are special chemicals that are extracted from plants with a variety of that are used in skin care today. Like lipoic acid, phytochemicals help reduce the occurrence of cancers such as cancer that attacks the Prostate, breast cancer in women (and occasionally men), and cancer that attacks the colon. These are all on the increase around the world.
Surprisingly, the group of vitamins, B5, B6, and B12 have also shown that they can be used to help reduce the effects of ageing. This is a vast area that has the potential for many new anti-ageing skin care products and services in the future but research needs to continue. A great deal about the aging process has already been learned and the products available today are already far more advanced than ten years ago. More long term effective methods will eventually be found to reverse or slow down the effects of aging.
The amount of research going on in this field will undoubtedly bring results in time, hopefully bringing down the cost of these anti-ageing skin care products in addition to increasing their reliability. Scientific research into anti-aging products is still in the early stages but they should never be relied upon. Fortunately there is a number of natural anti-aging regimes that can be carried out that do not rely on science. You know all these things but how many do you practice? Regular exercise, restful sleep, drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy diet and keeping your stress levels low are all necessary.
