Acne Treatment
Acne, sometimes known as Zits, is a menace to people who suffer from this condition, but things are gradually improving for sufferers. This is a skin complaint that affects many people around the world so scientific research to find a cure is fierce; this is good news with the range of effective skin care treatments improving all the time. Although there may seem like a huge range of acne skin care products, they can be broken down into three broad categories:
- Internet or Drugstore (treatment that helps prevents condition)
- Those available at a drugstore or over-the-counter
- Prescription only (doctors or dermatologists prescribe special treatments)
Preventative products are formulated to treat the skin in an effort to control the occurrence of acne. This sector deals with skin creams, lotions and cleansers that can help stop the problem. In the real sense, these products are just those that should be part of your daily routine, in many instances the user has never had a skin condition to worry about. More specialized cleaners are designed in the same way as acne skin care products - they clean out the pores to help stop sebum or oil which can clog these areas. These products prevent the oil from getting trapped in pores and can hamper the growth of bacteria, this can lead to the bad skin condition.
This type of skin care treatment also includes those which exfoliate such as skin peels. Most are readily available over the counter at drug stores or even online. They work by reducing oil plus other contaminants from the skin and in the pores which can reduce harmful bacteria and stop their chance of growth. Many other acne skin care products have become available over the counter and on the internet and they don't usually require a prescription. A bacterium that aids the formation of acne is stopped by creams and cleansers that contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid - they are designed to extract the excess oil that bacteria need to promote the development of acne.
Generally it is best to start using this type of product with only a small amount of benzoyl peroxide (less than 5.5 percent is recommended), just to see how the skin reacts. If a reaction occurs, a cleaner or cream containing alpha hydroxy acid should be safe. You might have to try a few different creams or lotions before you find the acne skin care product that is effective for you're skin. If none of them work then you would be advised to contact your skin specialist. Only doctors or skin care specialists can prescribe some medications, including the use of antibiotics and certain ointments.
Your dermatologist may suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules - never try to squeeze your zits however, as it can lead to permanent damage of your skin. Another effective course of skin care treatment is hormone therapy. This type of skin care treatment has been very effective in many cases. With all the treatments available, tackling acne is not that difficult as there are many new products available to help.
